Interior Design - What makes a Chic Garden

With Spring upon us and London in bloom, attention has turned to outdoor living and the BTL Interior Design team have been working on new garden schemes.

As we are all aware, inner London properties are not often blessed with the luxury of large gardens. Fear not, as size does not matter!

Garden design, whether large or small is about creating a space to suit your needs; be it a clean lined, calming oasis in the busy capital or bringing in a touch of the French Riviera, a home from home.

Crittal or glass doors leading out from the kitchen are great for creating a feeling of openness. Continue your tiling across the two spaces for a seamless transition between the inside and out or, simply consider tones which complement each other in decking or paving.

In your garden, it is especially important to capitalise on areas of light and shade and this can be achieved with a stylish pergola overhead. Not only is it architecturally striking, it can also play host to climbing plants or vines that will in turn provide privacy from surrounding neighbours.

Line a rear wall or perhaps corner off an eating area with a row of heavy planters - do not be afraid to go large with long grasses or introduce something exotic such as black bamboo.

When it comes to outdoor furniture, an eclectic mix of seating will give your garden area that contemporary feel. The lightweight Paulistano lounge chair, crafted from a single steel frame and cotton canvas, is both chic and incredibly comfortable. The perfect seat for wiling away a gorgeous sunny afternoon.

Finally, why not inject some colour into the garden with this lively Vlaemynck parasol, and use cushions made from outdoor fabrics to add layers of pattern and texture to the space.
