The project began with the basement excavation works. Here we hand excavated a full house footprint basement with front light well and an additional under garden room to the rear. The basement was taken to a depth to achieve an impressive 3m finished floor to ceiling height. The basement includes an additional bedroom with bathroom, gym, wine room, games rooms and large media/living room. The ground floor layout was rearranged to allow for a large open kitchen living space. This space opens up on to a designer garden with glazed sliding doors and large single pane windows. The original timber framed roof lantern over the kitchen was replaced with a stunning structural glass lantern, removing the heavy structural elements allowing great natural light. The reception rooms were opened up to create expansive living space. The 1st floor layout was shuffled to create a large master suite with dressing room and bathroom.
The roof finish was replaced, all internal doors and windows were replaced. We worked hard to retain or replace interesting original features. Period cornice mouldings were replaced in the entrance hall and reception rooms. The existing front door with stained glass detailing was replaced in a complementary style. The lighting designer carefully tailored the fittings and light to each space and to stunning effect. Externally the Victorian brick work was lovingly restored and external paint work refreshed. The rear garden was cleverly redesigned to create an outdoor kitchen and dining area and artificial turf and intelligent planting used to shape a relaxing and low maintenance garden space.
The 12 month project was completed on time in May 2018.
